The network builds on two existing projects:
The research network The Chinese Individual: Negotiations of Rights and Responsibilities , based at Oslo University, has explored the change of concepts and practices related to the individual and its position in Chinese society, community and family. An integrated part of this individualization process is the formation of new types of collective identities and organizations, which are the focal point of the Social and Political Organization in Rural China project.
Over the last couple of years researchers from Center for Rural Studies at Central China Normal University and Aarhus University have engaged in comparative studies of political and social organization in rural areas in China and Denmark. This cooperation has given Chinese researchers an opportunity to study Danish agricultural organizations and their historical development and facilitated Danish researchers’ archival research and fieldtrips in Hubei.
The present network will further formalize the cooperation between CRS and Nordic researchers in order to provide new insights into the development of rural organizations.
Though the network grows out of a Nordic-Chinese context, we welcome new members of all nationalities. Please contact us if you are interested in joining the network or have any questions for us.
